Kingsville -- Sophomore Kolten Thigpen (Hondo) and junior Logan Morris (Corpus Christi Carroll) each threw a touchdown pass to lead the Blue past the White 14-10 in the Texas A&M-Kingsville spring football scrimmage.
Senior cornerback Derrick Carter, who just moved back to defense after starting at wide receiver last fall, returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown for the White squad and sophomore kicker Christian Brom (McAllen) booted a 40-yard field goal.
Redshirt freshman Derrick Thomas (San Antonio Jay) intercepted two passes for the Blue squad.
Thigpen led the Blue squad on a four play, 70-yard drive on the second possession of the day. He completed a 37-yard pass to Damien Couthren (Bastrop) to start the series, junior running back Joe Williams followed up a 3-yard run with a 21-yard gain off an option pitch from Thigpen and Thigpen finished the drive with an 8-yard touchdown pass to Couthren.
Daniel Ramirez (Sinton) then led the White team right back down the field, keyed by a 22-yard run by redshirt freshman Myron Brew (San Antonio Jay). But a dropped pass in the end zone and Thomas' first interception stopped the drive deep in Blue territory.
Morris, in his first year after transferring from Kilgore Junior College, scrambled and found J.R. Hausey wide open for a 61-yard scoring pass to give the Blue a 14-0 lead.
Four series later, Carter stepped in front of a Thigpen pass and ran 40 yards for a touchdown.
The White team had the ball on it's own 20-yard line with 3:22 left in the game, but managed only one first down, had to punt and the Blue team offense ran out the clock.
Thigpen finished 4 of-10 with an interception, a touchdown and 69 yards passing. Morris was 3-of-6 with a touchdown and 87 yards, Ramirez 5-of-11 with two interceptions and 71 yards and redshirt freshman Nate Poppell was 6-of-13 for 42 yards.
Williams had 42 yards rushing on 11 carries, Brew had five carries for 40 yards and Billy Martin had 32 yards on three carries.
George Reyes had four catches for 57 yards, Couthren two catches for 45 yards and Hausey two receptions for 62 yards.
