What is Azusa Pacific University.

While many football fans may not know the difference between Azusa and Isuzu (the Japanese truck maker), the university for years has been known for its track and field excellence. The latest great athlete to come from the private West Coast university is Bryan Clay.
Clay just a few weeks ago won a gold medal in the decathlon in Bejing. Azusa had silver and bronze medalists before but never gold.

KINGSVILLE -- The impending arrival of Hurricane Ike in South Texas has made Saturday's scheduled football game between Texas A&M-Kingsville and Central Oklahoma an either-or proposition.

"I think it's a hit or miss in this way: We'll either be able to play it on its scheduled date and time or we'll probably miss the whole thing," A&M-Kingsville athletics director Scott Gines said Tuesday. "The breadth and timing of the storm is such that it doesn't lend itself to a lot of other options."

A&M-Kingsville athletics officials are scheduled to meet at 10 a.m. today following meetings by the City of Kingsville and the university's crisis management team. A decision on whether the game will be played should be made by midday, said Gines, who has been in touch with Lone Star Conference commissioner Stan Wagnon and Central Oklahoma athletics director Joe Muller.

From the Bullpen

Chicago’s win Sunday night was more than a little bit of revenge for the Bears for their loss to the Indianapolis Colts in the Super Bowl.

It was also a mini-Lone Star Conference reunion — Roberto Garza and Danieal Manning of the Bears and the Colts’ Dominic Rhodes.

Those three are among eight former LSC players currently on 2008 NFL Rosters — four in the AFC and four in the NFC.
