LSC Roundup 1-14

Win over Zias notches milestone win for ACU coach
Abilene Christian University women's basketball coach Shawna Lavender wasn't aware of the personal significance of Tuesday night's 73-65 victory over Eastern New Mexico University until her players let her know in the locker room after the game.

ACU outscored the Zias 44-26 in the second half as the Wildcats rallied to give coach Lavender her 100th career victory in the Lone Star Conference South Division opener for both teams.

"I didn't feel any different from any other win," Lavender said. "I was just happy to start conference off with a win. That was the most important thing."

MSU women open South play at home against Rambelles
With three wins in their last four games, and the one loss a one-point setback on the road, the Midwestern State women appear to have gotten things going in the right direction.

And it couldn’t have happened at a better time.

That’s because the Mustangs (5-9) will play host to the Angelo State Rambelles (9-6) tonight in the Lone Star Conference South Division opener for both teams.

Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. in D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

Javelinas face tough foe in Texans
KINGSVILLE — Long-standing nemeses await Texas A&M-Kingsville's basketball teams when the Javelinas open Lone Star Conference South Division play tonight at Tarleton State.

A&M-Kingsville's men (10-5) face a Texans squad that owns 13 consecutive victories over the Javelinas. A&M-Kingsville last beat Tarleton State during the 2001-02 season, a 71-69 overtime win. The Texans are 12-3 and have won six consecutive ballgames.

The Javelinas' women (10-5), meanwhile, haven't beaten the 9-6 TexAnns since the 2002-03 season, a 70-64 victory. That streak spans eight games. A&M-Kingsville's women, however, have won six of their past seven games and have posted double-digit victories for the first time since the 2002-03 season. The Javs lead the LSC in free-throw shooting, connecting on 77.8 of their attempts.
