Former ACU stars Scott, Knox to play in all-star game
Former Abilene Christian University football players Bernard Scott and Johnny Knox will play in the third annual Texas vs. The Nation All-Star Game at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Sun Bowl in El Paso.

Gene Stallings, a former Texas A&M and Alabama coach and Dallas Cowboys assistant, will coach the Texas team. Former Miami Hurricanes coach Howard Schnellenberger will coach The Nation team.

Texas A&M-Kingsville will try to stay among the leaders in the Lone Star Conference South Division men's basketball chase tonight at Eastern New Mexico, while the Javelinas' women will attempt to rebound from its poorest effort of the season when it faces a struggling Zias squad in Portales, N.

Kingsville, just 6-5 this season at home, is 6-1 on the road. … The Greyhounds have lost five in a row since beating Cameron at home on Jan. 3. They’ve dropped 15 consecutive South Division games since edging Tarleton State 77-74 in overtime at Greyhound Arena in their 2006-07 finale.

Since an 0-3 start, the Javelinas have had winning streaks of four, five and three games. They lost to Abilene Christian 71-62 on Saturday in their last outing.

West Texas A&M's Lady Buffs will try to remain atop the Lone Star Conference South Division standings while extending their home win streak to 10 games when they meet longtime rival Angelo State today.

"What? Are we in the first 10 yards of a marathon?" Cooper said. "You can't overreact to anything. We have a couple of good wins, but that's all they are. We can't look back."
