After scoring a career-high 53 points, setting the Texas A&M University-Commerce women’s basketball career scoring mark and breaking her own A&M-Commerce Field House scoring record in January, senior guard Britney Jordan was named the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II Player of the Month.
“I feel honored just to be recognized, let alone to get player of the month,” said Jordan. “It’s good to get recognition for our university. It feels good.”
The Peoria, Ill., native fired out of the gates with a then LSC record 53-point performance in her first game of the month against Abilene Christian. Jordan then eclipsed Katedria Mosley’s career mark of 1,601 points to jump atop the A&M-Commerce record books on January 14 before pouring in 47 three days later to break her own A&M-Commerce Field House scoring record.
“It feels great to know I was able to do all those things, but really I was just going out trying to provide a spark and trying to be a good leader and a good teammate,” said Jordan.
The All-American candidate averaged 32.5 points, 7.1 rebounds and 5.7 assists throughout the month and led the Lions to four wins in their last five games to close the month.
“It also helps that I’ve had a very supportive team and coaching staff to believe in me. It feels good, its not just me, it’s a team effort. Without them I wouldn’t have been able to do all that,” added Jordan...
