Teams are competing for one of eight spots, four from both the North and South Division, in the Lone Star Conference Championship to be held in Seguin, Texas, May 6-7-8.

Players of the Week
Courtney Bingham, Midwestern State, R-Fr., Outfielder, Arlington, Texas/Arlington HS
Bingham played a key role in helping No. 21 Midwestern State to a perfect 8-0 mark last week which included a twin bill sweep of defending LSC South champ Abilene Christian and a six-win showing at the Teri Mathis Zenner Memorial over the weekend in Joplin. The redshirt-freshman from Arlington hit .429 (12-for-28) and slugged .536 with three doubles and 7 RBIs. Bingham also scored eight runs and had a pair of stolen bases.

Katie Petersen, Midwestern State, Sr., Pitcher, Plano, Texas/Plano West HS
Petersen eclipsed the 700 career strikeout plateau on her way to a 4-0 record to lift No. 21 Midwestern State to a perfect 8-0 run last week which included a twin-bill sweep over defending LSC South champ Abilene Christian and a 6-0 showing at the Teri Zenner Mathis Memorial over the weekend in Joplin, Mo. The senior right-hander didn’t permit an earned run while limited the opposition to 10 hits for a stingy 0.00 ERA and a .120 batting average against. Petersen amassed 37 strikeouts to just five walks in 24 1/3 innings of work. She posted her third and fourth shutouts of the season with a one-hitter against Abilene Christian on Thursday before four-hitting traditional power Emporia State on Saturday.

Dani Couger, West Texas A&M, Sr., Catcher, Colorado Springs, Colo./William J. Palmer HS
Couger went an impressive 7-for-13 during this weekend’s games where she drove in nine runs and scored six. Couger’s performance at the plate during the Lady Buff Invite was highlighted by three homers. Couger blasted her first home run of the season on Friday, March 5, against Washburn and then crushed two more homers into left field during the Lady Buff victory over Central Oklahoma, 9-1, on Saturday, March 6, leading her team to a Holiday Inn/Lady Buff Invitational Championship.

Yvette Berlanga, Texas A&M-Kingsville, So., Third Base, San Antonio, Texas/O’Connor
Berlanga led the Javelinas to a doubleheader sweep of visiting St. Edward’s. First, she had the game-winning RBI double in a 2-0 win in the first game. Then, she drove in a career high four runs in an 8-3 win. She had an RBI single in the second inning and then hit a bases loaded double that cleared the bases in the fifth inning. She went 3-for-6 in the doubleheader with two doubles and five RBI’s.

Lindsey Brown, Texas A&M-Kingsville, So., Pitcher, Spring, Texas/Spring
Brown won both ends of a doubleheader against visiting St. Edward’s. She pitched her first shutout in a Javelina uniform in the opening game. She allowed just two hits and no walks while striking out two. She bounced back to pitch the final four innings of the second game to pick up her second win of the day. This is the first time she has won both ends of a doubleheader this year. She also helped out the team by hitting a two-run homer and scoring three runs in Game 2.
