Nick Smith, Angelo State University, JR, Rowlett, Texas, Rowlett HS
Smith ran the fastest time in the Lone Star Conference this season when he finished the 200-meter dash in 21.74 seconds to win the event at the Tarleton State Invitational (3/10). Smith wasn’t done there, however, as the junior contributed to an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time of 41.14 seconds while helping the Rams win the 4x100-meter relay. He also was part of Angelo State’s second-place finishing 4x400-meter relay team. Its time of 3:17.23 was best among LSC teams at the meet, and second only to ASU’s other 4x400 team on the LSC performance list this season.
Micah Franks, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, JR, Angleton, TX, Angleton HS
Franks led the Javelinas at the Tarleton State Invitational with a pair of first place finishes. He won the long jump with a career best leap of 23-0. He came back and won the triple jump with a 44-5.25 distance.
Bree Bennett, Angelo State University, SO, Decatur, Ga., Decatur HS
Bennett ran the fastest time in the 100-meter hurdles at the Tarleton State Invitational (3/10) with a time of 13.94 seconds. The mark was good for a NCAA Division II provisionally qualifying time and is the top time in the country this season. Bennett also posted a long jump of 18’7.25” to place second at Tarleton. That jump was also a provisional qualifying mark and leads the Lone Star Conference.
Samantha Alvarez, Texas A&M University - Kingsville, SO, Victoria, TX, Memorial HS
Alvarez led the Javelina women with her best performance of her career. She won the high jump with a clearance of 5-6. It tied her career high and provisionally qualified her for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships. She came back and won the pole vault with a personal record vault of 11-5.75.
