The Lone Star Conference is home to three of the top five men’s teams in the national team computer rankings (April 10) conducted by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) with No. 2 Texas A&M-Kingsville, No. 3 Abilene Christian and No. 5 Angelo State. On the women’s side, the LSC is represented by No. 16 ACU and No. 19 ASU.

Isidro Garcia, Angelo State University, JR, Crane, Texas, Crane HS

Garcia won the 400-meters and anchored the winning 4x400-meter relay team at the David Noble Angelo State Relays last week. His 400-meter time of 47.15 is a NCAA Division II provisional mark and the fourth-fastest mark in the nation. He is No. 1 in the Lone Star Conference in the 400-meter. The 4x400-meter relay ran a 3:09.37 to win the event and it is the second-straight week the relay has ran under 3:10.

Banjo Jaiyesimi, Abilene Christian University, JR, St. Louis, Mo., Hazelwood East HS
Jaiyesimi was victorious in the 800-meter run at the Texas State Invitational, posting a personal record and NCAA provisional time of 1:50.46. Jaiyesimi also helped the ACU 4x400m relay to a silver-medal showing with a provisional mark of 3:10.77, which is the sixth-fastest in DII this spring. His 800 time currently ranks second among all DII competitors.

Nick Jones, Abilene Christian University, SR, Amarillo, Texas, Tascosa HS

Jones recorded career bests in two events at the David Noble Relays hosted by Angelo State, helping the ACU men place fifth with 47 points. Jones, who is already a NCAA Outdoor Championship qualifier in both the shot put and discus, began his day at the LeGrand Sports Complex by tossing the shot 62 feet, 4.5 inches (19.01m) and then launched the discus 200 feet, 3 inches (61.05m). Jones’ effort in the discus was his first as a Wildcat to measure over 200 feet and is believed to be the third best in ACU history.
Morgan Shelton, West Texas A&M University, JR, Sweetwater, Texas, Sweetwater HS

Shelton recorded three provisional times/marks this past weekend at the ASU/David Noble Relays in San Angelo. The junior finished first in the women’s 100m hurdles with a provisional time of 14.08 and then she led-off the Lady Buffs 4x400 relay team that eventually finished second overall with a provisional time of 3:49.06. The Sweetwater native also set a provisional mark in the women’s long jump event with a leap of 18’ 7” (5.66m).

Theresa Sue, Angelo State University, JR, Ft. Worth, Texas, Saginaw HS

Sue set a new personal best and automatically qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships in the long jump at the David Noble/Angelo State Relays.
