A&M-Commerce Athletic Director Cooper on Paid Leave - Scott Harvey, KETR.Org

COMMERCE - Texas A&M University-Commercehas announced that Carlton Cooper, university athletic director, is on paid administrative leave.
“Carlton Cooper is currently on paid administrative leave for an undetermined amount of time to deal with some personal matters,” said Randy Jolly, associate vice president for Marketing Communications.
Jolly added that Judy Sackfield, associate athletic director, is filling in during this time.
 identifying areas of improvement within the department and overseeing the success of summer camps and recruiting efforts in preparation for the 2012-2013 season.”
“[Sackfield] is continuing the work of 
Cooper came to A&M-Commerce in 2007 after serving as the senior associate athletic director for internal operations at Southern Methodist University in Dallas the previous seven years. From 1998 to 2000, Cooper was SMU’s community relations director.

KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI – The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) today announced the NABC Honors Court, recognizing those collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics during the 2011-12 season. The NABC Honors Court recognizes the talents and gifts that these men possess off the court, and the hard work they exhibit in the classroom.

Texas A&M-Kingsville junior forward Reid Wallace (Spring/Tomball HS) was the lone honoree for the Javelinas. Wallace started 22 games for the Javelinas this past season averaging 6.0 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. The biomedical science major shot 43 percent from the field and also knocked down 32 three-pointers.

In order to be named to the Honors Court, an athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria. The qualifications are as follows:
1. Academically a junior or senior and a varsity player.
2. Cumulative G.P.A. of 3.2 or higher at the conclusion of the 2011-12 academic year.
3. Students must have matriculated at least one year at their current institution.
4. Member of an NCAA Division I, II, III, or NAIA Institution
