Odds and Ends

Do not forget to check out Don Garrett's LSC Indoor Track & Field Championship Preview with predictions.  He does excellent work, and will be the announcer at the meet this weekend.

Unbeaten West Texas A&M received 399 out of a possible 400 points, becoming a near unanimous #1 in the NFCA poll.  Close behind at #5 is Texas Woman's University.  Angelo State checks in at #25.  Another South Central region team in the poll is St. Mary's at #12.  Angelo State and St. Mary's have a doubleheader scheduled for tomorrow afternoon in San Angelo.

Conference play opens this weekend with Texas A&M-Kingsville facing Texas Woman's, Eastern New Mexico against Cameron, Angelo State at Tarleton and West Texas A&M at Midwestern State.  The Lady Buffs and Lady Mustangs will have a single game Friday and a double header on Saturday, while the other series are scheduled for doubleheaders on Friday and single games on Saturday.

There are several baseball polls and the rankings are mixed.  The top of the poll is consistent with Tampa #1 in all four polls and Minnesota State #2 in three of the polls and 3rd in the other.  After that, there are few similarities in the polls.
Angelo State is #20 in the NCBWA poll, #26 in the College Baseball Lineup poll, and #27 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll.
Texas A&M-Kingsville is #19 in the College Baseball Lineup poll.
Tarleton State is #30 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll.

LSC plays opens for baseball this weekend as well.  Angelo State travels to Cameron, Eastern New Mexico to Tarleton and Texas A&M-Kingsville meets West Texas A&M in the top series of the weekend.  All of the series are scheduled for four games, with single games on Friday and Sunday and double headers on Saturday.

The Lady Buffs drop three spots to #6 this week after losing just their second game of the season.  No other LSC team is ranked, but Tarleton State is receiving votes.

In the South Central regional rankings, the teams are ranked as follows: Colorado Mesa, WTAM, Tarleton, Colorado State-Pueblo, TAMU-International, TWU, St. Mary's, Midwestern State, Regis and Fort Lewis.

Texas A&M Commerce travels to Texas Woman's tonight.   This weekend wraps up the regular season, with Angelo State at Texas A&M-Kingsville, Midwestern State at Cameron, Tarleton State at Texas A&M-Commerce, and the Lady Buffs at the Zias.

On the men's side, Tarleton returns to the #2 spot, receiving one first place vote.  The #1 team is Metropolitan State, a member of the RMAC, which is in the South Central Region with the LSC and Heartland Conference.  Midwestern State is just outside of the rankings, receiving 10 total votes.

More importantly, Tarleton holds the top spot in the South Central regional rankings.  They are followed by Metropolitan State, Midwestern State, Colorado Mines, Arkansas-Fort Smith, St. Mary's, TAMU-International, Angelo State, Texas A&M-Commerce and Colorado-Colorado Springs.

The regular season concludes this weekend with Angelo State at Texas A&M-Kingsville, Midwestern State at Cameron, Tarleton State at Texas A&M Commerce and West Texas A&M at Eastern New Mexico.
